PEG-MGF is a chemically modified version of Mechano Growth Factor (MGF), a splice variant of Insulin Like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) that is rapidly expressed in skeletal muscle following mechanical overload or injury. PEG-MGF is created by attaching a polyethylene glycol (PEG) moiety to native MGF, which significantly extends its half-life, enhances systemic stability, and improves therapeutic potential.
Due to its unique properties, PEG-MGF is studied for its potential to stimulate muscle regeneration, enhance recovery, and support neuroprotection in degenerative conditions.

What is PEG MGF?
-
Mechanism of Action:
PEG-MGF mimics the biological effects of native MGF while improving its pharmacokinetic profile:
- Satellite Cell Activation: Promotes the activation and proliferation of muscle satellite cells, leading to muscle repair and growth.
- Tissue Regeneration: Enhances repair of damaged myofibers and supports muscle hypertrophy following injury or exercise.
- Neuroprotection: Exhibits potential in protecting neuronal tissue and enhancing axon regeneration in certain CNS conditions.
- Delayed Apoptosis: Helps preserve cellular integrity in stressful or catabolic states.
The PEGylation process helps the peptide resist rapid degradation, providing a prolonged anabolic signal to tissues.
-
Preclinical and Clinical Studies:
- Muscle Wasting Conditions: Demonstrated benefits in preclinical models of cachexia, sarcopenia, and muscular dystrophy.
- Post-Exercise Recovery: Enhances muscle regeneration and accelerates recovery following intense training or injury.
- Nerve Regeneration: Preclinical studies suggest PEG-MGF promotes motor neuron survival and may aid in neurorepair.
- Bone Healing: When combined with bone scaffolds or stem cells, PEG-MGF shows promise in osteogenesis and fracture recovery.
